5 Things to do with an Unwanted Piece of Jewellery

The Cuttings Blog

Bracelet It's fair to say that most of us have an unwanted piece of jewellery at home, whether it's been inherited from a distant family member, it's in an out-of-date style, or it's just broken.

Depending on what the item is, there are plenty of things you can do with these pieces, many of which can make you some easy money. Have a read of our 5 ideas and get inspired to do something with that old jewellery!

1.Get it valued

If you're not sure how much your jewellery is worth, taking it to a reputable jeweller to have it valued will help you decide what you would like to do next. It may be worth a lot more than you think, especially if it's a gold item, but you'll never know unless you ask! The jeweller will give you a written valuation, which you can then use as a legal document if you'd like to get the jewellery insured.

2.Rework it

Perhaps your jewellery has sentimental value, but you don't like its style. Why not rework it into something you would like to wear? Many reputable jewellers offer a bespoke jewellery service, working with you to design something extra special.

3.Get it cleaned

Sometimes all a piece of jewellery needs is a bit of tender loving care to bring it back to life again. A professional clean is a good place to start if you're not sure what to do with your jewellery; once you see the difference you may decide you'd like to keep it.

4.Pawn it

A piece of fine jewellery can be a good thing to keep in case you need to borrow some instant cash. It's a fast and discrete service that doesn't require any credit checks, just some ID and the willingness to leave your jewellery as security until you can pay the loan back. 5.Sell it

You may decide that the best thing to do with your unwanted jewellery is to sell it. If it's a gold piece, you'll be able to get a good price for it even if it's broken. The best thing to do is to take the jewellery in to a local jeweller and have them make an offer for you. This is a great way to make some easy cash, and then you can buy something you really like!
