5 Ways to Customise Your Luxury Watch

Customised_Watch_Thumbnail.jpgUnless you are lucky enough to choose the watch you wear each day from your collection, you are most likely wearing the same watch on your wrist every day.

A luxury watch is a friend for life, so it is important that it reflects your personality and feels comfortable on your wrist.

If you would like to make your watch more unique to your tastes, here are 5 ways to customise your luxury watch to make it your own.

Change the Strap

If you have owned your watch for many years, you might be ready for a change. Replacing the strap transforms the appearance of your watch without actually having to replace your trusty timepiece. A quality leather strap would make a nice replacement for a standard metal bracelet; leather is hardwearing, comfortable and rustic, and a refreshing change from stainless steel. Perhaps you could match the stitching colour to the dial or numbers. We recently had a vintage Rolex Oysterdate Precision with a canary yellow dial join our collection, customised with a black leather strap contrasted with yellow stitching.

Unique Dial

A custom dial could be anything from a striking colour, like our Rolex Oysterdate, to embossed logos and images. The design could express what you love, reflect your sense of style or simply make the watch stand out more on your wrist. Whether it is a vintage Rolex or the latest Audemars Piguet, a custom dial will make the watch undeniably yours, (One must be careful however as customising an authentic timepiece can may an adverse effect on its resale value).

Engrave the case

If you are giving a luxury watch as a gift, an engraving adds a sentimental touch that will make the gift extra special. An anniversary watch, for instance, could feature the date of your wedding, or the number of years you have been married. Engraving can even go beyond simple numbers and letters and become ornate patterns covering the whole case and even the strap!

PVD Coating

PVD coating involves adding a wafer thin layer of metal compounds to the steel surface of a watch. It was originally used in the military to decrease friction on metal parts, but is now also used for aesthetic purposes on luxury watches. PVD coating creates a sleek, matte black effect that really makes a watch stand out while also protecting the steel against knocks and scratches.

Embellishments

Make a dress watch even dressier by adding gemstones to the case or dial. You will be surprised at how chic a row of stones can look on a classic luxury watch – rather than being there “for the sake of it”, modern designers can work to complement the watch’s style with subtle embellishments. Take this beautiful Rolex Milgauss customised with black diamonds for example – it adds texture and complements the custom engraving.
