Are Watches a Status Symbol?

Watches have often served as status symbols for many, many years, often being a key indicator of a person’s taste levels and wealth. Timepieces can make strong statements about the person wearing them, with many wearing different watches for multiple occasions in order to give exactly the right impression.

You will usually find that electronic watches are less expensive as they are powered by easily replaced batteries or an automatic winder. Mechanical watches, however, use a small pendulum in order to wind up and keep time. Luxury watch brands will use mechanical engineering rather than electronic for all of their watches.

High end watches offer exclusivity. It isn’t rare for a luxury brand to make limited numbers of the watches they offer. The materials used are often precious metals like gold and silver, with many featuring diamonds and other gemstones to add to the extravagance.

Watches are purchased from all over the world and can serve you as well as luxury brands, though Swiss-made watches feature the best quality in terms of watch-making craftsmanship. With high-end watches, you do get what you pay for in terms of exclusivity, luxury and longevity. Luxury watches have been proven to be kept alive for many future generations, too, provided they are taken to trained specialists for servicing around every three to five years. Specialists will be able to give watches a complete luxury overhaul, which will include cleaning and re-oiling. Not only will this keep your watch in perfect condition, but it will also add value to it as it gets older as it will remain in pristine condition.

Many men buy watches as a symbol of a milestone within their lives. Whether they are celebrating that dream job, got an exclusive promotion, are getting married or are having a child, watches can hold memories for many people, and thus they are purchased at a high points in a man’s life. The price of a watch is what holds the status symbol for many, as luxurious watches can come with high price tags. As to whether or not watches are seen as status symbols today, it is simply down to the individual.

Whatever watch you can afford should be enjoyed, and if you want the best money can buy, it is often seen as a satisfying victory when you finally earn your way to buying the best of the best.
