How to store diamond jewellery

Diamonds are an expensive investment, typically given to loved ones on special occasions to showcase our affection and gratitude. The storage container

The most important storage tip for keeping your diamonds protected, is to store them in a dry box. It is essential that they are kept away from sunlight, air and humidity if you want to keep them from getting tarnished. Despite being one of the hardest materials, diamonds are still prone to damage from scratching, harsh chemicals and sunlight. Storing them in a dry, airtight box is a great way to prevent them from being damaged in the long run.

Store them individually

As previously stated, diamonds are susceptible to damage from scratches. If you have more than one diamond gem or multiple jewellery pieces, it is a good idea to store these individually. By wrapping them in a cloth or a dry material, it will prevent the stones from rubbing against other jewellery pieces, inevitably causing scratch marks and tarnishing the diamond. Additionally, most jewellery boxes come with individual slots for jewellery to be held in. Purchasing one of these boxes is a great idea to keep your favourite pieces protected.

Location

While picking a good container and storing your diamonds individually is great, it is additionally important to remember that the location which you pick to store your jewellery in, is equally as important.

Diamonds are prone to damage from harsh chemicals and humidity and so whilst you may think putting them in a secure box is good, it is not a good idea to keep this box in somewhere such as the bathroom. Additionally, you will most likely want to keep your jewellery in a location close to other accessories you may use when getting ready, such as a dressing table. It is important to consider perhaps storing the jewellery box in a drawer on the dresser, rather than on top of the dresser. Doing this will further protect your diamonds from the spray of perfumes or deodorant.

In summary

Diamonds are a special investment, one which, if looked after correctly, could pay off in the future. It is therefore important to know how to properly store your jewellery to maintain its condition.
