When the colder weather forces us to layer up, our jewellery has a tendency to get hidden underneath our long sleeves, scarves and gloves. However, there are plenty of ways to make your jewellery stand out in the winter, from wearing it over clothes to choosing more statement pieces that won’t get lost amid all the layers.
We’ve put together a few ideas to give you some inspiration for wearing jewellery in the winter:
Necklaces
For those who love accessorising with jewellery during the daytime, long and chunky necklaces can be draped over woolly jumpers or polo-necks. There are also many styles that would welcome a more delicate necklace – such as a collared dress. If you prefer to save your jewellery for special occasions, however, there are plenty of special occasions over the festive season! Winter offers a great excuse to break out your more elaborate necklaces, such as diamonds and pearls, which go well with fur, velvet and other wintry fabrics.
Rings
If you want to keep warm by wearing gloves, wearing rings can be tricky. It’s best to steer clear of rings with big stones when you are wearing gloves, as you run the risk of losing them when you take the gloves off. Keep to simple bands if you are planning on wearing gloves, but if you still want to show off your rings then fingerless mittens may be the option for you.
Bracelets
In the same way that we layer up our clothing when the weather gets colder, adopting the same approach with our jewellery means that we don’t have to hide it away during the winter months. Bracelets can be worn over jumper sleeves instead of under them; this works particularly well with bangles but can work for almost any type of bracelet. Layering your bracelets over sleeves allows you to show your jewellery off without leaving your wrists exposed to the cold.
Brooches
Brooches are the perfect winter accessory for jewellery lovers, as they can easily brighten up any outfit, day or night. Whether you want to add sparkle to a winter coat, pin a scarf in place, or accessorise a woolly hat, there are endless ways to wear a brooch during the winter!
Earrings
In the same way that diamond and pearl necklaces make perfect accessories at this time of year, Winter is also the season for dazzling and ornate earrings. If you’re not sure what to wear to the Office Christmas Party or a New Year’s Eve celebration, a pair of statement earrings can make an outfit you have worn before look completely different.
