Luxury watches VS smartwatches

Over the last few years, we have seen a rise in popularity when it comes to smartwatches. It’s not a surprise; they are trendy, convenient and classy. With the rise of social media and electronics, it’s no surprise that both adults and teenagers have taken a liking to smartwatches.

The fear is that smartwatches are going to quickly push out traditional watches; but what evidence do we have to support this? While smartwatches have more capabilities than traditional watches do, some do still view them as clunky technology which does not look as sophisticated as a traditional watch. If you are wondering what the debate is between luxury watches and smartwatches then you have come to the right place!

What is the difference?

For those that aren’t experts in smartwatches and traditional watches, it can be difficult to accurately compare the two. The obvious difference between the two is that a traditional watch will just display an analogue clock, while smartwatches are miniature computers on your wrist and thus, have more functionalities.

Many people do not know that smartwatches have been around since the 1980s since they did not start truly taking off until the late 2000s. Nowadays smartwatches are more popular than ever before and many people wear them not only for how useful they are but also for their stylish addition to any outfit.

Are smartwatches going to replace luxury watches?

The simple answer to this is no, they will not. There will always be a desire and demand for luxury traditional watches. The connotations of status surrounding a luxury watch is something which a smartwatch simply cannot replace. Additionally, while many people may own a smartwatch for everyday use, often for important events, people still prefer to wear a luxury watch for aesthetic purposes and because they are associated with sophistication.

Longevity comparison

When you are deciding which you want to purchase, longevity of the watch is an important factor. Traditional watches are designed to last longer. Due to them not being miniature computers, their life expectancy is far better than that of a smartwatch. People are additionally more likely to purchase one or two luxury watches that will last them a lifetime as, unlike smartwatches, there are not updated models which come out as frequently.

Smartwatches are different because they’re made to give the wearer access to what they would have on their smartphone or computer device. By being functional, smartwatches have forfeited some of the design aspects which includes the durability of the watch.

Summing it up

Both traditional luxury watches and smartwatches are popular, but the two are very different and serve to provide the wearer with different functionalities. Although many people think that smartwatches are more popular, the demand for luxury watches does not seem to be decreasing. It seems that the two have places alongside each other and while smartwatches are perhaps being used more frequently for everyday use, they are yet to gain the reputation of style and sophistication that luxury watches hold, This is why people are continuing to purchase luxury watches.
