rg stock 56.jpgThe illustrious Tag Heuer are the official watch, chronograph, eyewear and timing partners of the prestigious Automobile Club de Monaco (ACM); with a strong reputation for their timepieces, they are the unrivalled race timers with the phenomenal precision of 110,000th of a second.  The brand is well established in the world of motorsports, and the watches have been worn by a number of racing greats including Ayrton Senna, Lewis Hamilton and Jo Siffert.

Tag Heuer released four watches to commemorate the 2012 Monaco Grand Prix, which included te rerelease of two watches which were initially only available in Tag Heuer boutiques, and also two brand new limited edition models.  Here we take a closer look at one of the latter, the limited edition Carrera Monaco Grand Prix, and the striking features that distinguish it from the more classic Tag Heuer models.

The Carrera Monaco Grand Prix is resilient and designed to be practical as well as stylish.  Named after both the Mexican Carrera event, and the Monaco Grand Prix, this Limited Edition model features a number of elements which reflect the glamour and style of the races.

Black Rubber Strap
This handsome model is inspired by the Carrera Panamericana sports cars, and the strap takes direct influence from the 1960s Dunlop track tyre; the thick rubber strap features a subtle pattern which mimics the tread.  This style of strap is unique and comfortable to wear, even if racing a sports car around the winding streets of Monte Carlo.

Red features

The flashes of red on various elements of this model distinguish it from previous models.  From the red pin-stripe on the dial, to the elegant second hand, these touches subtly brighten up the watch, without distracting from its other features.

Red “Monaco Grand Prix” lettering on the bezel

The “Monaco Grand Prix” wording on the bezel adds to the uniqueness of this timepiece, confidently celebrating the success of the Tag Heuer brand in the world of F1 racing.

Titanium Carbide Steel Case

The Tag Heuer Carrera Monaco watch case is made from Sandblasted black titanium, and features a Titanium Carbide coating.  This means that, watch is not only highly shock-resistant, but also virtually impossible to scratch.  It is also waterproof up to a respectable depth of 100m.

Sapphire Glass

Tag Heuer is renowned for their robust timepieces, and the Carrera Monaco Grand Prix is no exception.  The curved sapphire crystal glass watch face is highly scratch-resistant and durable.

Case is 43mm

The Carrera Monaco Grand Prix case is a bold 7mm wider than the original Heuer Carrera in 1963. It’s a bulky watch, but suits this size, and is immediately recognisable as a Carrera.

Only 3000 Carrera Monaco Grand Prix models have been produced, and we have been known to have these striking timepieces in stock here at Cuttings.  To see the watches we currently have in our stock, take a look here.  Alternatively, feel free to pop into Cuttings in either Margate or Ramsgate to see for yourself!
