A Guide to Layering Jewellery

layering.jpgThe layering trend in fashion is a subtle way to make a statement and can be achieved all year round; whether you’re layering your clothing or jewellery. The summer especially is a time for showcasing the maximum amount of jewellery possible through layering. Wearing small, dainty jewellery has become very popular amongst women in order to create a statement look. However, the look doesn’t always work, particularly when too much jewellery or the wrong combination is used.

We’ve put together our top tips to help you nail the trend of layering.

Mix Metals

Though some prefer to wear one colour when wearing jewellery, a mixture of colours certainly can create an edgy yet sophisticated look. You can combine gold, silver and rose gold for a truly unique layering experience. We would advise opting for more dainty jewellery pieces when layering, and avoid items that are heavy in gemstones.

Short & Long

If you want to layer your necklaces, it will work best if you choose short and long pieces. If you have a statement necklace you want to wear, try pairing it with one or two shorter necklaces to create a lengthening effect. This could make you appear taller and will give off a cool, thrown-on vibe to your outfit. You can also pair short and long necklaces together whatever the outfit, whether you’re dressing for a casual day at work or going all out.

It’s all about Balance

The top tip for layering jewellery is to maintain balance with the items you choose. If you decide to layer your necklaces, maybe lose the earrings altogether or choose some simple studs instead. If you’re stacking your rings, try one, modest chain bracelet or bangle. It’s important to keep your look fun and exciting, but to avoid looking like you’ve thrown on every single jewellery item in your collection!
