3 Ways to Personalise your Jewellery

Over the last few years, it has become increasingly popular to personalise gifts, making them unique to the recipient.

Here are three tried and tested ways you can personalise your jewellery, whether it’s your own or it’s a gift:

Engraved Jewellery

Engraving has long been a popular way to customise jewellery. Some pieces hold special significance to the wearer; this can be reflected in the type of engraving they choose. Here are just a few ways jewellery can be personalised with engraving:

  • An engagement ring could be engraved with a personal message on the inner edge, a line from the wearer’s favourite song or poem, for example
  • A new Mum could be given a necklace engraved with her son or daughter’s name, which could be added to if she chooses to have more children
  •  A couple soon to be married could ask their jeweller to engrave their wedding date on both their wedding rings

If you’re considering having a piece of jewellery engraved, feel free to get in touch with the team here at Cuttings – we’d be happy to help.

Repurposed Jewellery

Another reason to personalise a piece of jewellery is to suit the unique style of the person wearing it. Over the years, styles change and older jewellery can start to look dated. So, instead of leaving an heirloom piece to gather dust in a jewellery box, changing its style breathes new life into the jewellery for years to come. For example, the stones from a brooch could be used to create a more modern necklace or ring, or an old ring could be redesigned to create a unique engagement ring.

We’ve helped many customers to create personalised jewellery pieces through our jewellery design service, which gives the chance to use a sentimental piece of jewellery for a new purpose.

Birthstone Jewellery

When choosing jewellery for friend or loved one, you could find out the recipient’s birthstone to add an element of personalisation to the gift. The concept of birthstones is thought to date back to the Bible, in which the High Priest Aaron wears a breastplate adorned with twelve stones to represent the twelve tribes of Israel.

Nowadays, we attribute the Western birthstone chart to calendar months:

January: Garnet

February: Amethyst

March: Aquamarine

April: Diamond

May: Green Emerald

June: Pearl

July: Ruby

August: Peridot

September: Sapphire

October: Opal, Tourmaline

November: Yellow Topaz, Citrine

December: Turquoise, Blue Topaz, Tanzanite
