Steve McQueen

A well-known, iconic Rolex watch wearer, Steve McQueen made a huge impact on the watch brand. In fact, the Rolex Explorer II is still known to this day as the ‘Steve McQueen Explorer’ watch. The late actors personal watch sold for a huge $234,000 at auction in 2009.

Martin Luther King

Perhaps less known as a Rolex wearer, Martin Luther King wore a Datejust similar to Winston Churchill. However, the one worn by Martin Luther King was made from yellow gold and worn alongside one of three bracelets offered by Rolex; the Jubilee.

In 1970, Elvis Presley sold out the Houston Aerodrome for six days straight. Due to this, Elvis was gifted an extremely rare, limited-edition Rolex watch by the organisers of the concerts. At the time, this was the most expensive Rolex timepiece available and it was known as the Rolex King Midas. It featured a square design made with solid gold and was one of only 100 made.

John F Kennedy

Many American presidents have owned and worn Rolex timepieces. John F Kennedy was well-known for wearing his Rolex Day-Date, which is also known as the President Rolex. He was gifted the Rolex watch Marilyn Monroe in 1962. She inscribed the back of the watch with the personal message, ‘Jack, with love, as always. Marilyn’.

Paul Newman

American actor, Paul Newman, was renowned for wearing Rolex timepieces. In the 80’s, he stopped wearing his Daytona Rolex watch and no one knew what happened to it, until he gifted it to his daughter’s boyfriend in 1984. Last year, the Daytona Rolex owned by Paul Newman himself reached a record-breaking $17.8million at auction. It has been dubbed the most iconic wristwatch of the 20th Century.
