The Top Watch Trends for 2017

Unlike fashion trends, which come and go with the changing of the seasons, luxury watch trends tend to be revealed at a slower pace, with the main platform for new releases being at the annual Baselworld exhibition in Switzerland.

Despite not knowing exactly what 2017 will mean for the world of horology, there’s nothing wrong with making predictions based on what we already know about the industry. Here’s a round-up of what we and other experts think will be the biggest watch trends this year.

The Connected Watch

In a world that’s seamlessly connected with technology, we’re starting to see internet connectivity in our cars, our televisions, and even our kitchen appliances. The Apple Watch has seen success, but we think 2017 will be the year that more watch manufacturers start releasing connected watches. We’re interested to see how brands approach this!

Niche Brands

As well as seeking smartwatches, the younger generation is always on the lookout for something new. Watch experts predict that lesser known, niche brands will see a surge in popularity in 2017. You’re much more likely to see a small brand release experimental or unconventional designs that appeal to a younger audience.

Statement Watches

Whether it’s the niche brands and their avant-garde creations, or traditional brands releasing limited edition pieces with bolder dials and splashes of colour, 2017 could see more people investing in statement watches, rather than sticking to the traditional designs. Even the classic sports watches might receive innovative twists like different case materials.

Big, Stainless Steel Watches

There’s nothing new about a chunky sports watch, but we think this style will continue to be popular in 2017. While there’ll certainly be a demand for statement watches in different materials, experts still believe that stainless steel will be a metal of choice for many buyers. We’re hoping to see a few new sports watches released this year!

All-Rounders

The busy modern man wants a watch he can wear from day-to-night, which is why many watch brands have started releasing watches for this purpose. Take the Piaget Polo S, for example, that’s been created with a sporty stainless steel bracelet while keeping a similar look to the brand’s classic 1979 polo watch. We think 2017 will see more of these “all-rounder” watches released.

We at Cuttings are looking forward to monitoring these trends as the year unfolds! If you’re looking for a new timepiece this year, feel free to visit us in Kent or browse our current stock online.
