What is the process of pawning like?

Pawnbrokers are usually based in a shop with a walk-in counter where you can take your valuable item(s). These items then get valued and once the pawnbroker has looked, a loan amount is agreed and offered. The process can take any time between a few minutes, to a few days. At Cuttings you can even apply for an evaluation of your items online. Click here to enquire. Keep reading to find out more about the process, we can walk you through it!

What is the process of pawning like?

  • You bring in or post an item to a pawnbroker.

  • Next, the pawnbroker will value your item and make you an offer.

  • You can either accept or negotiate the offer.

  • If the offer is accepted, the item in question will be kept in secure storage by the pawnbrokers, until the loan is paid back.

  • When the loan comes to an end (usually 6 months), the total loan amount (including interest) will need to be paid to recover the item if you would like it back. If the full loan amount isn’t paid by the end of the term, the pawnbroker will proceed with selling the item to recover the loan amount that is left.

Pawnbroking is now viewed as a competitive financial service, utilising one's assets in a sensible and controlled way. Customers use their own goods as security for a very flexible loan, which can be repaid anytime within the agreed time period that suits them - this can be from just a few days to 6 months! Interest is only paid for the amount of time it takes you to repay the loan back. There are no credit checks - if you own the goods, then the money is yours.
